Today's buildings generate vast amounts of data — yet most of it remains untapped, buried within disconnected systems. I bridge the gap between your building infrastructure and actionable intelligence.
Today's buildings are equipped with BMS, HVAC, lighting, metering and security systems that generate vast amounts of operational data every single minute. Yet most building owners and operators are either unaware of this data — or lack the expertise and tools to extract meaningful value from it.
That data isn't noise. It's your building telling you exactly what's wrong, what's wasteful, and what's about to fail. The question is whether you have the infrastructure — and the expertise — to hear it.

A versatile Controls & Integration Engineer with over 25 years of continuous industry experience spanning IT infrastructure, high-end residential automation, and complex commercial Building Management Systems (BMS). Operates confidently at every layer of a project — from low-level hardware I/O and firmware to cloud-based data pipelines and digital twin architectures.
Recognised for an ability to bridge the gap between traditional, hardware-siloed systems and modern software-defined approaches. Equally comfortable writing PLC logic, commissioning a Tridium Niagara stack, architecting a Prometheus/Grafana observability platform, or leading an onsite team through ITP witness testing on a major hotel development.
Core philosophy: systems should be manufacturer-agnostic, open-protocol where possible, and designed with data normalisation in mind from day one. Actively pursuing digital ontology standards including Project Haystack and Brick Schema to enable scalable analytics and cloud-based data lakes.

GB7CL doesn't have a public audio stream — but you can create one yourself using your home server. The repeater audio arrives digitally over the Phoenix network. You need a hotspot (e.g. ZumSpot, SharkRF openSPOT, or a Pi with an MMDVM hat) connected to the Phoenix network, which decodes the DMR audio. That decoded audio is then piped into an Icecast server running on your Proxmox box, which serves an HTTP stream your browser can play here.
apt install icecast2 darkice — configure Icecast on port 8000, then point darkice at your audio source. This creates an HTTP MP3 stream at http://your-ip:8000/gb7cl.
cloudflared tunnel approach as the Prometheus dashboard — route gb7cl.petejoslin.com to your Icecast port. No port forwarding needed, works over HTTPS.https://gb7cl.petejoslin.com/gb7cl) in the stream URL field above and hit Listen. The player here uses a standard HTML5 audio element — it'll work with any Icecast MP3 or Ogg stream.Useful sites, tools and references.

Beloved father, engineer, entrepreneur and friend.
Founder of Faraday Motion Control.

Andy Joslin was born in 1953 and lived a life defined by ingenuity, determination and warmth. He was a talented engineer who founded Faraday Motion Control — a company that reflected both his technical brilliance and his entrepreneurial spirit. To those who worked alongside him, he was known as someone who could solve problems nobody else could, with a calm confidence that made everything seem achievable.
He spent his final days at home, surrounded by family and the people he loved most — exactly as he wanted. The team at St Helena Hospice Colchester were there around the clock to keep him comfortable, and the family are deeply grateful for their care.
Andy was taken too soon, but the mark he left — on his family, his friends, and the people whose lives he touched — will never fade.
"I am I and you are you,
whatever we were to each other
that we still are.
Speak to me in the easy way
which you always used.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
Life means all that it ever meant,
it is the same as it ever was."
In lieu of flowers, Andy's family asked that donations be made to St Helena Hospice Colchester — the team who cared for Andy in his final days and who continue to help so many families through their most difficult times. If you would like to contribute to their wonderful work, please visit the memorial page.
